Sony Center a Potsdamer platz, Berlino
Ho lasciato a parte nel panorama di Potsdamer platz il lotto Sony, sia perchè fisicamente separato dagli altri interventi, sia perchè merita un capitolo a parte per la sua eccezionalità. L'architetto tedesco Helmuth Jahn relaizza fra il 1996 e il 2000 otto edifici in acciaio e vetro raccolti attorno ad un forum ovale coperto da un immenso sistema di vele di vetro e acciaio. In questa piazza coperta si affacciano caffè, ristoranti, cinema e negozi. Un grattacielo in vetro semicircolare completa il fronte verso Potsdamer platz.

Nel 1991 viene indetto un concorso internazionale ad inviti per la ricostruzione della zona di Potsdamer Platz con uso a residenza, uffici, commercio, cultura e artigianato. L'area era un quartiere di 480.000mq, praticamente vuoto a seguito della demolizione del muro. Su un master plan di Renzo Piano, vengono realizzati edifici progettati da diversi architetti, fra cui lo stesso Piano, Giorgio Grassi, Hans Kolhoff, Richard Rogers e Helmut Jahn. Alla fine risulta costruito il 50% adibito ad uffici, il 30% ad attività commerciali e culturali e il 20% ad abitazione. Monumento commemorativo dell’olocausto a Berlino
Da oggi parte una serie di pubblicazioni sui grandi interventi urbani a Berlino dagli anni '90 in poi. Inizio con quello, forse, più evocativo. Nel 2005 il famoso architetto newyorkese Peter Eisenman realizza, fra la Porta di Brandeburgo e Potsdamer platz, questo monumento/memoriale dell'olocausto. Su una superficie di 19.000 mq realizza 2700 parallelepipedi di calcestruzzo lisciato di diversa altezza che formano un labirinto e ricordano, come tante tombe, lo sterminio di sei milioni di ebrei. In un viale di Haifa costellato di ville in stile "Bauhaus", gli architetti Pitsou e Kedem realizzano nel 2008 questa prestigiosa residenza. Una personale reinterpretazione della pianta libera, della luce che inonda l'edificio, dell'incastro di differenti volumi in uno spazio residenziale di qualità e senza tempo. La facciata principale quasi anonima si integra con gli edifici circostanti. La casa è costruita attorno ad uno spazio pubblico che ne connette le diverse parti.

Concludo la breve carrellata su Mario Botta con questo centro benessere realizzato ad Arosa. Un grande spazio ipogeo si apre al paesaggio mediante dei forti corpi emergenti con funzione di lucernari, con un'immagine di foglie. Lo spazio interno asseconda le curve di livello esistenti. L’accesso alla nuova struttura avviene attraverso una passerella vetrata direttamente dall’albergo esistente. La nuova edificazione oltre allo spazio “non costruito” delle “foglie” risolve il rapporto con l’albergo esistente e con il suolo attraverso un grande muro in pietra naturale.

L'intervento edifica in modo massiccio (sin troppo, forse) una parte del lotto, lasciandone libero un'altra parte per creare un parco urbano. L'antico edificio industriale viene inglobato, quasi "fagocitato", all'interno del progetto e all'interno vi è una grande piazza coperta da una copertura curva di legno lamellare.

Gli architetti georgiani Nico Japaridze, George Sakvarelidze e Devi Kituashvili realizzano a Tblisi questo piccolo edificio, appena ultimato.
